Free Forum Traffic!

Forums can bring lots of free traffic to your web site. But posting in the wrong manner can get you banned from future forum activity – and get your posts deleted. So follow some basic forum etiquette to get – and keep – traffic coming to your website.

  1. Before jumping in to a new forum, check out the forum rules and regulations. Read plenty of posts and get the feel of how things are done; the tone of posts, the signature files that the forum members use, the content of the posts (i.e. helpful and not blatant ads), etc.

  2. Then fill out your profile. Look at top members who post to see what type of signature file they use and set up a similar style for your profile. You may be allowed to add a short blurb and a link to your website there. Check the box to make sure this signature file is added automatically to each post only after you are comfortable posting several times without it first.

  3. Next, if there is a Welcome area, head there and introduce yourself.

  4. A word from our sponsors: eCOMpal is the shopping cart you can literally set up in minutes and be selling online If you're new to the Internet and Selling Online you can learn more about eCOMpal - The Easy to Set Up Shopping Cart.
If you're an old hand at selling online and are looking for features that will take you to the next level you want eCOMpal - The shopping cart on steroids.

  5. Then slowly begin to interact, helping any you can with their posts. Do not advertise or spam the site or the site members and moderators; i.e. mention your products and service. And then gradually as you gain in postings, only mention your products and services if a thread specifically asks for recommendations and you can recommend yours.

  6. Notice other areas of the forum besides the main Discussion area for most general topics. Many times there are other areas where you can post and include your link, like: Article Directory areas where you can generally post your article that’s not an advertorial, and include your byline with a link to your site. There may also be a Member’s Only “Classified Ad” area where you can list your own ads. Again check around and note all rules and regulations before posting. When in doubt, ask the moderators or other members first for advice.

  7. Be kind to other members of the forum. Don’t get into fights, no spamming people via their contact info, no unethical or racial comments, etc. If you feel someone has stepped out of line, maybe attacking you verbally, seek help from the moderators. Remember: posts can remain and be copied around the net before being removed. So before losing control and getting angry, take a deep breath and click away from the forum for awhile until things calm down.
