Optimize Your Web Pages

Adding great content to your site enhances your visitors’ online experience. However, you need to make sure your website has great content for the search engines, too. To do this, you simply need to optimize your web pages so that your site will turn up in the top searches for key terms in your niche and industry.

Here are tips to maximize you’re your website optimization strategy for each web page:

Title Tags

Add your keyword or phrase for that web page in the <title> tag. Here is an example:

<title>Internet marketing and product development, search engine marketing, ROI analysis – Your Company Name</title>

Keywords in Alt tags

Your site should have plenty of images on each page to attract visitors and hold their attention. Although images look fine, they don’t’ attract search engines, as search engines don't index images. Plus search engines do not index text that exists in an image format, like indexing a company name, motto or slogan.

The solution to this dilemma is the ALT tag. ALT tags are description for images.
So insert your keywords in these ALT tags to help with your keyword frequency and ranking position. Here is an example:

<a href="http://www.yourdomain/index.php"><img src="images/headerlogo.jpg" border="0" class="logo" alt="your company name: an Internet marketing company" title="your company name: an Internet marketing company" /></a>

Name Pages with the Keywords for the Page

As you add web pages, make sure to name the pages with keywords, words that you will use in your page’s content focus. Use dashes or underscores between words in keyword phrases. For example, your web page link could read:

http://www.yourcompany.com/article/Search_Engine_Optimization.html
or: http://www.yourcompany.com/article/Search-Engine-Optimization.html

Meta Tags

On each page, place your keywords or key phrases inside <meta keyword> tags and include short descriptions or lines in the <meta description> tag. No blatant ads allowed; no repetition.

Here are good examples of these types of tags:

<meta name="Description" content="Since 1995, your company has offered search engine marketing solutions to small businesses." />
<meta name="Keywords" content="search engine optimization Internet marketing" />

Header Tags

Check your headline code to be sure keywords or keyword phrases are written inside Header 1 tags. These show up like this: <h1> and </h1> surrounding your title.

So put your content to use for the search engines, not just human visitors. Add tags and optimize all of your web pages. And watch your increase in traffic and ROI.

Check out the Competition

One thing will give you a big boost is to take a look at your competitors that are ranking high in the search engines. Click on their link in the organic search results and open the page source. How have they set up their title? What about their Alt links? How are the keywords used in their text? Analyze their pages to see how you can improve your pages and your rankings in the search engines.
